November sees the opening of a brand new production of Five Guys Named Moe, the musical featuring the hits of Louis Jordan written by Clarke Peters.
The original production started life at the Theatre Royal Stratford East and then transferred to the West End’s Lyric Theatre in 1990. Underbelly Productions in association with Cameron Mackintosh have reimagined the show in a brand new unique venue – a Spiegeltent.
The Spiegeltent format has presented some unique challenges for the team. The circular auditorium has meant that a different approach was needed than the standard theatre proscenium system.
Ben’s design allowed the cast to perform anywhere within the realms of the structure (including the front of house bar). The system relies on distributed loudspeakers and number of different performance “zones”. Each location where an actor will be performing is set up as it’s own system or zone. The audio is then digitally delayed to this zone into each speaker around the structure. These zones are used to make up the system which actors are seamlessly switched between depending on where they are performing.
The show is currently taking place at Festival Square in Edinburgh and runs until 7th January 2017.
